Broughton Partners is proud to sponsor TOPSoccer again this year—a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities. The program aims to enable thousands of young athletes with disabilities in southern Georgia to develop their physical fitness, technical skills, courage, and self-esteem, through the joy and excitement of playing soccer. Cason Carter, CEO of Broughton Partners, and Brad Nein, Director, Tormenta FC Academy, started TOPSoccer in Savannah in 2019, bringing team sports to as many kids with disabilities as possible in Savannah and other surrounding communities.

Cason and Brad were recently featured on WTOC 11 and had the opportunity to speak with Cyreia Sandlin about the TOPSoccer program.

“Before TOPSoccer, Savannah didn’t have many sports programs for kids with disabilities,” said Carter. “Soccer teaches kids various life skills outside of the sport’s athletic aspect—like teamwork, relationship building, and confidence. Brad and I felt that every child should have the opportunity to experience the feeling of being a part of a team, and the personal development benefits that come out of team sports. The need was there, so we decided to make a difference and start the program.”

What is TOPSoccer?

TOPSoccer, or The Outreach Program for Soccer, is a program organized by youth soccer association volunteers and is all about helping children with either physical or intellectual disabilities learn to play soccer. In addition to that, they also place these young athletes into teams to participate in this fun sport. The main goal of TOPSoccer is to train their participants, encourage improvement, and allow them to safely enjoy the game with similar peers.

The program was formed to perpetuate the U.S. Youth Soccer mission statement, which is, in part, “to foster the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development of America’s youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition.” There are thousands of children in America with disabilities who need the opportunity to play soccer, and TOPSoccer can be the perfect program for them.

Bringing the Joy of Soccer to ALL Youth

This program encourages players to improve themselves in more ways than one through the team sport of soccer. Children will be able to boost their physical capabilities, but also gain important life skills. The coaches and volunteers will teach the participants how to play both reasonably and safely. One of the best benefits is that they will have fun engaging in this activity and making new friends. What’s great about this program is that it can open your child’s mind to the possibilities of what they can become and potentially apply these new skills to other parts of their life.

TOPSoccer Program Details

Any boy or girl born between 2001 and 2016 with a physical or mental disability can join the program. If your child has a condition that reduces their abilities or prevents them from participating in soccer at all in school or another local program, then they’ll get the chance to play with TOPSoccer. There’s so much to gain with soccer, and this program can help your child discover those benefits.

TOPSoccer is a community-based program. That means that it’s not an exclusive club in which only very select children can play; anyone who’s eligible has a chance to participate in this program. Joining will be an enriching experience for anyone, including the parents of the players.

Each session is joined by volunteer coaches who will help guide players and ensure that everyone enjoys their time in a safe environment.

Session Dates & Location

For the Fall 2020 season with Tormenta FC, there will be five activity days held at the Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex Field #2. The sessions will be held weekly over the course of five weeks, from 2 to 3 p.m. Each of the dates, all of which are on a Sunday, are:
